Microsoft releases AD Domain Services

Microsoft has announced that Azure AD Domain Services is Generally Available (GA). Azure AD Domain Services provides managed domain services such as domain join, group policy, LDAP, and Kerberos/NTLM authentication that are fully compatible with Windows Server Active Directory. The service integrates with existing Azure AD tenants so users can sign in using their corporate credentials.

Microsoft releases Azure AD Connect 1.1

Microsoft has released Azure AD Connect 1.1, which connects Windows Server Active Directory and Azure Active Directory. The update includes reduction in the sync interval between Azure AD and AD on-premises, automatic upgrade support, support for administration users with MFA or PIM configured and Domain and OU filtering support.

Microsoft releases Azure AD Delegated app access management

Microsoft has announced the general availability of the employee self-service app access for Azure AD Premium. The feature allows employees to add more applications in their Azure AD access panel, and allows IT to create optional approval workflows that place “app access grant” decision making in the hands of a department lead or other delegated administrator.

In addition to approving requests, delegated admins get a control panel in the Azure AD access panel that allows them to see which apps they manage access for, and directly assign and remove user access to those apps.

Microsoft announces public previews for Azure Active Directory

Microsoft has released public previews of Azure Active Directory B2C and B2B Collaboration services. Azure AD B2C Basic is a multi-tenant cloud service that supports authentication with consumer identity services like Facebook and Google (and soon Microsoft Account). Azure AD B2B Collaboration is a new set of capabilities in Azure AD that enable secure collaboration between business-to-business partners.

Microsoft announces the public preview of the Azure AD Reporting API

Microsoft has announced the availability of the public preview of the Azure AD Reporting API, which allows programmatic access of data from Azure AD reports using REST-based APIs. The API allows the use of C#, PowerShell, or any tool or programming language that supports REST APIs with OAuth. Data is returned in JSON, XML or text format.

Microsoft has announced that the Azure AD Device Registration Service is Generally Available (GA). The service enables devices to be provisioned with an identity. When a policy is set that requires compliant devices to access Office 365, Azure AD authenticates the device and checks whether the device is complaint before allowing access to Office services such as email and SharePoint.

Microsoft announces public preview for Office 2013 modern authentication

Microsoft has announced that Office 2013 client modern authentication features have moved from private preview to public preview. Modern authentication brings Active Directory Authentication Library (ADAL)-based sign in to Office 2013 Windows clients and is available to customers running the March 2015 or later update for Office 2013. It will continue to be off by default in the client, but can be enabled on Windows machines by participants in the public preview.

Microsoft adds Android support for Azure AD Workplace Join

Microsoft has updated its Android Azure Authenticator application that includes Multi-Factor Authentication and adding a “Work Account” (the end-user facing term for an Azure AD Account) to Android devices. Employees can add a Work Account on Android to register their device in Active Directory. This enables administrators to enforce authentication of both the user and their device before the user is given access to sensitive resources.
