Microsoft 365 Business solution released

Microsoft has announced the general worldwide availability of Microsoft 365 Business, which is targeted at small and medium-sized businesses with up to 300 employees. The solution includes the Office 365 suite of productivity and collaboration tools as well as device management and security tools for Windows 10 PCs, mobile devices and apps. The offering incorporates Microsoft Connections, Listings and Invoicing for Microsoft 365 Business and Office 365 Business Premium customers in the U.S., U.K. and Canada.

Microsoft and Huawei announce Device Neural Translations

Microsoft has partnered with Huawei to provide on-device neural translations in the Translator app for Android that has been customised for the Huawei Mate 10 series. The technology uses the capabilities in Huawei’s new NPU (Neural Processing Unit) hardware, which results in improved and faster offline translations compared to existing offline packs.

Microsoft releases Windows Server version 1709

Microsoft has announced that its first Semi-Annual Channel release cadence for Windows Server is available for Software Assurance customers to download. Version 1709 features an updated Server Core container image that has been optimised for lift-and-shift scenarios and a Nano Server container image that is nearly 80% smaller. The release also enables Windows and Linux containers to run side-by-side on the same Windows host using Linux kernels provided by major Linux vendors.

Microsoft releases Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Microsoft has started delivering the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. The rollout is using Windows Update and will be phased over a period of time starting with newer machines. The release includes enhancements to Cortana, Edge, accessibility features, security and inking. Other features are OneDrive offline file access, ransomware protection, pin people to the taskbar as well as Windows Mixed Reality and a unified Store for Windows 10 and Xbox.

The Service Catalogue allows corporate IT teams to create and manage a catalogue of solutions and applications for use by employees. This enables organisations to centrally manage approved solutions and ensure compliance. Employees can discover and consume approved solutions from the list.

Microsoft releases File Recovery from Azure VM backups

Microsoft has announced the general availability of Instant recovery of files and folders from Azure VM backups by Azure Backup. This file recovery feature enables the recovery of files from cloud backups of Azure VMs without any additional infrastructure as well as opening application files without having to restore the entire VM.

Microsoft announces Surface Laptop

Microsoft has announced that its Surface Laptop will be available for purchase in June 2017. The laptop runs on Windows 10 S, a new edition of the operating system that only runs Microsoft Store applications and is designed to reduce management overheads.

The laptop weights 2.76lbs, is 14.47mm at its thickest point, uses a 13.5” PixelSense LCD touch screen display and comes with a 7th Generation Intel Core processor. Microsoft claims a battery life of 14.5 hours.
