Microsoft has announced the release of Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 5, which includes several new additions in Compute, Identity, Management and Automation, Networking, Security as well as Storage. The Technical Preview container support adds performance improvements, simplified network management and support for Windows containers on Windows 10. There is also an updated module for building Nano Server (a lightweight OS in a VM or container) images.

The service provides simplified configurations of proven open source container orchestration technology and has been optimised to run in the cloud. The Azure Container Service is built on open source software to maximise portability of workloads and offers a choice among popular orchestration engines such as DC/OS and Docker Swarm.
Microsoft has released version 1.0 of Visual Studio Code, which is a cross-platform browser-based code editor for developers. VS Code can be localised and ships in 9 different languages, including French, German, Japanese and Chinese. VS Code provides editing, navigation, debugging and built-in Git support.
Microsoft has announced the public preview of Project Madeira, a business management solution for small and midsize businesses (SMBs). The solution connects business processes with Office 365 productivity tools and provides sales, financial management and operations services. Project Madeira is a public cloud service (Software as a Service) running on Azure and can be accessed via the Web or using apps for Windows, iOs and Android devices.
The service is scheduled to become generally available in the U.S. during the second half of 2016, with other countries to follow.

Support for SQL Server 2005 ends on 12 April 2016. Microsoft plans to end support of the RC4 cipher with April’s cumulative security updates, which will disable the RC4 cipher by default.
