Microsoft has acquired technology from Talko, maker of a mobile app for business communications. As part of the agreement, Talko employees will join the Skype team. The corresponding announcement on Talko’s site states that it has been acquired by Microsoft.
Microsoft has announced that it has acquired Metanautix, who provide a data compute engine that brings an organisation’s data together for analytics. The solution can integrate data across traditional data warehouses like SQL Server, Oracle and Teradata; open source NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Cassandra; as well as business systems like Salesforce.com and an array of other cloud and on-premises data stores.
Microsoft plans to bring Metanautix’s technology into its data platform, including SQL Server and the Cortana Analytics Suite.
Microsoft has announced the general availability of the employee self-service app access for Azure AD Premium. The feature allows employees to add more applications in their Azure AD access panel, and allows IT to create optional approval workflows that place “app access grant” decision making in the hands of a department lead or other delegated administrator.
In addition to approving requests, delegated admins get a control panel in the Azure AD access panel that allows them to see which apps they manage access for, and directly assign and remove user access to those apps.
Microsoft has announced new StorSimple technologies. The new technologies include the StorSimple Virtual Array, which simplifies the process of managing data growth and data protection; the StorSimple 8000 Series Update 2, which introduces local volumes to manage on-premises workloads; and a new StorSimple Cloud Appliance that provides improved storage performance for a wider range of cloud-based applications, which are able to use enterprise data backed up in Azure by StorSimple.
Microsoft has announced the availability of the Skype for Business app for Android, which has been in Preview for some months. Features include a Quick Join icon to join meetings with one touch, improved contact management as well as additional authentication and security options.
Microsoft has announced the release of the Access 2016 Runtime. The Runtime is packaged and distributed with applications that do not require end user customisation (including report modifications) and makes a full installation of Access 2016 unnecessary.
Microsoft has announced the general availability of a free Excel add-in for use with Web services published from Azure Machine Learning (ML). The add-in combines the analytical and visualisation features of Excel with the predictive capabilities of an Azure ML Web service.
Microsoft has announced that Microsoft’s Bing Pulse is changing its product name and brand identity to Microsoft Pulse. Microsoft Pulse has also become a multi-platform service, integrating with several products within the Microsoft family, including: Azure Media Services (video), Skype for Business (meetings), OneNote (sharing), Yammer (enterprise communications), and Power BI (analytics). In addition to a new and upgraded producer app, the brand now offers new features to the current services line-up, which include Pulse for Broadcast, Events & Conferences, Market Research and Pulse in the Classroom.
The new Microsoft Lumia 550 4G LTE smartphone running Windows 10 has been launched in Europe with other regions around the globe to follow. The Lumia 550 has a 4.7-inch HD display (16:9, 1280×720, 315 ppi), a 1.1 GHz quad core processor, a front and rear facing cameras (2 and 5 MP respectively) and 1GB RAM.
ABB has fully deployed Office 365 to approximately 125,000 employees in 100 countries. All employees use Exchange Online for web-based email and shared calendaring. Yammer and SharePoint Online are fully deployed for enterprise social and team-based collaboration using Sites. OneDrive for Business provides online storage for all employees and everyone connects with each other using Skype for Business Online for instant messaging and presence awareness.
