Microsoft has released Skype 7.8 for Mac, which features a redesigned chat input field to simplify sending photos, files, contacts and video messages as well as support for pasting or dragging images directly into the input field. The release also includes fixes and performance improvements.
Microsoft has announced the general availability of the StorSimple 8000 series Update 1. The update is a software-only update available via Microsoft Update and installed on shipping units. It includes multiple new features for the StorSimple Hybrid Cloud Storage solution, as well as incremental software improvements.
The update supports additional cloud storage providers and includes Amazon S3, Amazon S3 with RRS, or OpenStack-based clouds, such as HPCS (a cloud solution available from Hewlett-Packard that offers public, private, hybrid, and managed private clouds based on OpenStack technology). Management of StorSimple data, backups, and other management workflows continues to be done from the Azure StorSimple service.
Microsoft has released a public preview of SQL Server 2016. The preview features Always Encrypted, which adds a security layer that only provides the client with decryption keys and keeps the data encrypted during transactions and computations. Other features include improved operational analytics and and hyper-scale.
Microsoft has released a beta version of Windows App Studio Beta for Windows 10 Insider Preview. The beta generates apps for Windows 10 Insider Preview as well as Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. The generated apps are built using the new Windows Universal Platform.
Microsoft has released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10122 for PCs. The release is focused on stability and refinement rather than new features and includes improvements to Start and Continuum, improvements and additions to Microsoft Edge (the new browser) as well as changes to how Windows 10 handles default apps.
Microsoft has started to deploy Sway (an app for expressing ideas across multiple devices) to Office 365 business and education customers. The release includes support for more languages as well as a range of other enhancements such as Wikipedia snippet insertion, Flickr images and an improved way to visualise and structure multimedia content.
Microsoft has announced that it is rolling out a preview of an update to Outlook.com to a small group of customers. The update features a refined inbox, collaboration enhancements and an upgraded calendar. Other changes include Clutter (automated message sorter based on usage), search suggestions and refiners, rich preview of links as well as inline image pasting.
Microsoft continues its monthly release cadence for Intune with the release of the May update. The update includes the Intune App Wrapping Tool for Android that provides the capability to modify the behaviour of in-house Android apps so they can be controlled with mobile application management policies; deploy Android apps from the Google Play store as Required installations; publish or deploy iOS apps by specifying the app installation file (the manifest file is no longer required); as well as a range of security policy enhancements and changes.
Microsoft has announced the preview for Word, Excel and PowerPoint for Android phones. The Office for Android phone apps have been optimised for touch and supports OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint, Dropbox, Google Drive and Box.
Microsoft has released Build 10080 of the Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones. The release adds support for the Lumia 930/Lumia Icon, Lumia 640 and 640XL, and the HTC One (M8) for Windows. Other updates include the Windows Store Beta for phones, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote Preview apps (Universal Office apps), a new Camera app as well as a number of bug fixes.
