Microsoft announces new tools for cross-platform developers

Microsoft has announced a number of new tools for cross-platform developers.

Visual Studio Code, a free cross-platform code editor for building modern web and cloud applications on Mac OS X, Linux and Windows.

Visual Studio 2015 RC, which provides improved productivity and diagnostics features, tools for building Universal Windows Applications, and cross-platform development support for Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.

Application Insights Public Preview, which offers a 360-degree telemetry view of your applications from devices to web to server, including integrating HockeyApp’s cross-platform capabilities to deliver crash analytics for iOS- and Android-based apps.

A preview of the .NET Core runtime distribution available for Linux and Mac.

Microsoft announces new Azure data services

Microsoft has announced two new Azure data Services.

Azure SQL Data Warehouse offers developers a data warehouse supporting petabytes of data and scales compute separately from storage.

Azure Data Lake service is a nearly infinite data repository supporting petabyte-size files and all types of data. Machine learning and big data services from Microsoft, and partners like Cloudera and Hortonworks, are integrated into Data Lake to give developers ways to store, process and reason over exabytes of structured and unstructured data.

EY and Microsoft form strategic relationship

EY and Microsoft have formed a strategic business relationship to help customers remove barriers to digital adoption, improve employee experiences at work and maximise return on investment in digital technologies.

The new offerings will use Microsoft’s cloud and data platforms and EY’s practices in analytics, cyber-security and digital enterprise strategy.

Microsoft’s Azure Media Services has announced new services, certifications and partnerships. These include a private preview of Live Encoding, Azure Media Player, Spanish Language support for Azure Media Indexer, Content Delivery Security Association’s Content Protection and Security Program (CDSA) certification and a strategic partnership with OTT video solution provider Clearleap.

Microsoft releases new Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones

Microsoft has released Build 10051 of the Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones. The build supports an extended range of devices and has an early version of Project Spartan that runs alongside IE11. There are a range of updated and new apps that include Mail, Calendar, Phone, Messaging, People, Maps and an updated App Switcher.
