Microsoft unveils Power BI Preview

Microsoft has unveiled a preview of Power BI, a cloud-based business analytics service. The service includes pre-built dashboards and reports from a variety of sources including GitHub, Marketo, Dynamics CRM, Salesforce, SendGrid and Zendesk. The preview features Power BI Designer, which allows business analysts to connect to, model and visually analyse data. A preview of Power BI for iPad is also available from the Apple App Store.

Microsoft to acquire Revolution Analytics

Microsoft has announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Revolution Analytics. Revolution Analytics is a commercial provider of software and services for R, a programming language for statistical computing and predictive analytics. Microsoft said that it will continue to support and evolve both open source and commercial distributions of Revolution R across multiple operating systems.

Microsoft starts rolling out Lumia Denim Update

Microsoft has started deploying the Lumia Denim Update to Windows Phones. The update combines Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 with specific Lumia features that include Cortana (Beta and Alpha versions available in more countries), Live Folders, updated Glance Screen, IE enhancements and consumer VPN. This will be a phased rollout over a period time.

Microsoft adds Android support for Azure AD Workplace Join

Microsoft has updated its Android Azure Authenticator application that includes Multi-Factor Authentication and adding a “Work Account” (the end-user facing term for an Azure AD Account) to Android devices. Employees can add a Work Account on Android to register their device in Active Directory. This enables administrators to enforce authentication of both the user and their device before the user is given access to sensitive resources.
