Microsoft has released Skype 5.7 for iPhone – the second release for the iPhone during October. The release features enhancements to photo handling, better chat performance and people list UI improvements.
Microsoft has introduced the Microsoft Band, a wrist band powered by Microsoft Health, which tracks heart rate, steps, calorie burn and sleep quality. It also provides email previews and calendar alerts.
Microsoft has announced that SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 (SLES 12) is available in the Microsoft Azure Gallery. Both standard and premium images (includes phone and email support from SUSE) have been published.
Microsoft has announced that Azure Stream Analytics and Azure Data Factory are available in preview and Azure Event Hubs is generally available. Stream Analytics is an event processing engine that helps handle input from devices, sensors, infrastructure, applications and data. The Azure Data Factory enables information production by orchestrating and managing diverse data. Azure Event Hubs is a scalable service for collecting data from “things”.
Microsoft has announced that it has rolled out encryption at rest for SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business called per-file encryption. Per-file encryption technology encrypts individual files stored in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business with its own unique key, and also encrypts each subsequent file updates with an additional unique key.
Microsoft has released an update for OneNote on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Changes include adding files from a cloud storage service to OneNote on your iPhone or iPad (iOS 8 required); managing section passwords and Touch ID unlocking (iOS 8 required); moving and rearranging pages on your iPhone; and opening SharePoint Server notebooks in OneNote for Mac, iPhone, or iPad (eligible Office 365 subscription required).
Microsoft has announced three new capabilities for developers of Windows, iOS, Android and web applications. These include the general availability of Office 365 APIs for mail, files, calendar and contacts; mobile SDKs for native app development; and visibility for developers’ apps through the new Office 365 app launcher.
Microsoft has announced the availability of public previews for two new services – Azure Batch and Azure Operational Insights. Azure Batch provides cloud-scale job scheduling and compute management. Operational Insights is an analysis service that enables IT administrators to gain insight into their environments and provides capabilities to manage logs, plan capacity, track changes and assess updates.
Microsoft has announced the availability of the Enterprise Site Discovery Toolkit for Internet Explorer 11. The toolkit allows Internet Explorer (IE) to collect data on computers running IE 11 on Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 and helps build a list of websites used within companies as an aid to browser deployment planning.
Microsoft has announced that all Office 365 customers will get unlimited OneDrive storage at no additional cost. Microsoft has started rolling out this benefit to Office 365 Home, Personal, and University customers. OneDrive for Business customers will receive unlimited storage in 2015.
