Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 available

Microsoft has announced the availability of Dynamics GP 2013 R2. New capabilities include executive dashboards in Office 365, backup to the cloud with Microsoft Azure as well as streamlined workflow and requisitions capabilities.

Microsoft demos Skype Translator

Microsoft demonstrated a pre-beta version of Skype Translator, which showed near real-time audio translation from English to German and vice versa, combining Skype voice and IM technologies with Microsoft Translator, and neural network-based speech recognition.

Skype Translator first will be available as a Windows 8 beta app before the end of 2014.

Microsoft announces 2014 Partner of the Year winners and finalists

Microsoft has announced the winners and finalists of the 2014 Microsoft Partner of the Year Awards. There are 46 awards that recognise each of the core partner competencies, including cloud technology; Windows 8, Office and SharePoint applications; public sector; citizenship; and sales excellence. More than 2,800 entries were collected from more than 117 countries; the award finalists and winners were selected from a group of nominations based on their commitment to customers, their solutions’ market impact and exemplary use of Microsoft technologies.

Microsoft announces Windows 8.1 with Bing

Microsoft has announced a new edition of Windows called Windows 8.1 with Bing, which provides the same functionality offered by Windows 8.1 and comes with Bing as the default search engine within Internet Explorer. This new edition will be only be available preloaded on OEM devices, some of which, in particular tablets, will also come with Office or a one-year subscription to Office 365.

Microsoft and Thailand’s OBEC announce education partnership

Thailand’s Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has announced a cloud education partnership with Microsoft, which will provide 8 million students and 400,000 teachers throughout the country with free access to Office 365 for Education.

Microsoft launches Surface Pro 3

Microsoft has launched Surface Pro 3 as a tablet and a laptop with multiple processor, RAM and storage options. Surface Pro 3 has a 12-inch ClearType Full HD display, 4th-generation Intel Core processor and up to 8 GB of RAM. Microsoft claims that the device is thinner, lighter, more powerful and has a longer battery life than its Surface Pro 2 predecessor.

Microsoft and SAP extend partnership to mobile and the cloud

Microsoft has announced an extension of their partnership with SAP to include Azure and mobile devices. SAP will certify a number of their business applications to run on Microsoft Azure, including SAP Business Suite software, SAP Business All-In-One solution, SAP Mobile Platform, SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (SAP ASE) and the developer edition of the SAP HANA platform.

Microsoft reveals support changes for the next CRM release

Microsoft has published a list of supported configurations for its next release of Dynamics CRM. Configurations that will no longer be supported include Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Small Business Server (All versions), SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 Remote Desktop Services and Office 2007. There are also a number of application specific changes that impact the Client API (JS), the Form system, browser support as well as a number of other areas.
