Microsoft has announced a content distribution agreement that will bring video content available from AOL to Microsoft’s video platforms, including MSN and Bing Apps for Windows and Windows Phone.

Azure SQL Database introduces new service tiers

Microsoft Azure SQL Database is adding new service tiers, Basic and Standard, to work alongside its Premium tier, which is currently in preview.

Basic is designed for applications with a light transactional workload. Standard is for getting started with cloud-designed business applications. Premium is intended for mission-critical databases.

Microsoft acquisition of the Nokia Devices and Services completed

Microsoft has announced the completion of its acquisition of the Nokia Devices and Services business. The acquisition has been approved by Nokia shareholders and by governmental regulatory agencies around the world.

Reporting to Nadella is former Nokia President and CEO Stephen Elop, who will serve as executive vice president of the Microsoft Devices Group, overseeing an expanded devices business that includes Lumia smartphones and tablets, Nokia mobile phones, Xbox hardware, Surface, Perceptive Pixel (PPI) products, and accessories.

Microsoft releases rollups for System Center 2012 SP1 and R2

Microsoft has released the latest update rollups for both System Center 2012 SP1 and System Center 2012 R2. The update rollups provide a cumulative package of fixes for each System Center component and are available from Microsoft Update.

Microsoft has released the Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld operating system to its partners. The company has also released the Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld SDK to allow enterprise and ISV developers to build applications for Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld devices.

Microsoft releases Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Update

Microsoft has made Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Update available to customers and partners via Windows Update, Microsoft OEM Online and Volume Licensing Service Centre. The update includes Sideloading, inter-process communication between modern and desktop apps, an updated Embedded Lockdown Manager, user interface improvements and reducing requirements to support lower-cost hardware.

The Nokia Devices and Services acquisition finalised

Microsoft has announced that it has completed the steps necessary to finalise the acquisition of the Nokia Devices and Services business. The transaction will be completed 25 April 2014 and includes some adjustments to the original deal.
