Microsoft releases Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 CTP2

Microsoft has released Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 CTP2, a go-live Team Foundation Server 2013 Update 2 RC and TypeScript 1.0 RC. This update release preview includes support for TypeScript, updates to web tooling, improvements in diagnostics tools and simplifying Azure integration for Web projects.

The release of Team Foundation Server 2013 Update 2 RC includes additional Git support and work item tagging from Visual Studio.

Office 365 supports S/MIME encryption

Microsoft has announced S/MIME (Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) capability for Office 365 and Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack 1. This applies to Outlook, Outlook Web App (OWA), and Exchange ActiveSync clients. S/MIME for Outlook and EAS is already available on Exchange Online and S/MIME on OWA is expected to be completed in April.

Microsoft announces Windows Server 2012 R2 update

Microsoft has announced that a minor update to Windows Server 2012 R2 will be released in spring. The update includes minor UI enhancements and bug fixes, as well as previously-released monthly update rollups and security fixes.

Microsoft announces Windows 8.1 update

Microsoft has announced that an update to Windows 8.1 will be released in spring. The update is designed to reduce Windows hardware requirements and encourage OEMs to offer lower cost devices. Other changes include user interface improvements, some of which are specifically targeted at mouse and keyboard users, and enhanced support for enterprise organisations.

Microsoft releases Office 2013 Service Pack 1

Microsoft has released Service Pack 1 (SP1) for the 2013 set of Office products including Office, SharePoint and Exchange Server. SP1 includes stability fixes, expanded functionality, security enhancements and improved compatibility with Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Microsoft release update to Windows Phone App Studio Beta

Microsoft has released an update for its Windows Phone App Studio Beta. The update includes a redesigned UI, touch-enabled UI, rebuilt emulator and new features such as image conversion from JPG to PNG, full-screen image rotation, and better integration of sections and data sources. In addition, the update supports generating a Visual Studio project containing both Windows Phone and Windows 8 versions of apps.

  • ExpressRoute: Dedicated, private, high-throughput network connectivity with on-premises
  • Web Sites: Backup and Restore Support
  • Mobile Services: .NET support, Notification Hub Integration, PhoneGap support
  • HDInsight: Hadoop 2.2 support
  • Management: Co-admin limit increased from 10->200 users
  • Monitoring: Service Outage Notifications Integrated within Management Portal
  • Virtual Machines: VM Agent and Background Information Support
  • Active Directory: More SaaS apps, more reports, self-service group management
  • BizTalk Services: EDIFACT protocol support, Service Bus Integration, Backup and Restore

Microsoft announces availability of Office 365 Message Encryption

Microsoft has announced the general availability of Office 365 Message Encryption, an enhanced version of Exchange Hosted Encryption (EHE) with additional features. The service requires a subscription for Windows Azure Rights Management (included in Office 365 Enterprise E3 and E4), which also includes Information Rights Management capabilities.
